Portfolio 2015
This painting is inspired from paintings of Thai artist with a very simple name La Fe! This is the last one in the year 2015.
Lets go home |
Had to combine a couple of photographs to do this one. The goats were clicked by me right in the market in my lane and people were amused with my photography of the goats!!
Lets see whose home this lady goes to eventually!! :)

Abandoned Lily |
Somebody had discarded this lily as it had lost its colors, so I picked it up and tried to give it new life by putting it in water color. Hence the subdued colors for such colorful flower.
A small sketch |
A small sketch on a cartridge paper!
It's a powerful tool that we all should embrace. Thumbnail sketches done before painting is one of the easiest things we can do to improve our work. Thumbnails help us simplify our subject. They help us create a stronger design. They help us establish a framework of values. The details should come later. We need to frame up the house before we can put up the walls and decorate! - Karen Margulis
Cashew Nut with fruit |
These are made from two different photos of the cashew nut fruit. Look closely for the detailing on its skin. This is on Arches cold pressed, it is said hot presses gives much better result, I am waiting when I can buy few sheets.
One of my best pieces, these are the state flower of Maharashtra. There are many trees which flower in summer in a lane close to my house. I made many trips at different time of the day to photograph and match the colors. Got the correct hue after purchasing the range of purple, mauve, violets, pink and blues. Read more on this HERE
Jarul Flowers |
Bunch of trees |
Again a small sketch on cartridge paper to try out a few brushes.
Morning by the pond |
A short play of water, paper and drying time.
Golden Trumpet or the Yellow Allamanda |
This is using Amol papers a very cheap paper, bit buff color. But very good water retention.
I did these while I was working on the Hydrangeas!
An outdoor session with the master of watercolor Milind Mulick sir, at Pune University.
Following Hydrangeas are on the same Arches pad I have. Took a lot of time.
Hydrangeas in progress - completed |
Again a mini painting on 8"X6" Canson card paper 200 gsm. Should I redo the background I am musing ....
This is a mini painting 8"x6" till I completed the hydrangeas. Just need a quick satisfaction to quench that thirst of completing a painting!
The Pear and the Periwinkles |
These Pears look complicated but was very easy to do. It is from Ann Mason's online free tutorial. Do try it!
Pear, Periwinkle and some beads |
Polish Rose |
This Rose I have gifted to my daughters dear friend for her new house.I call it the Polish Rose as the reference photograph is supplied by a Polish artist Krzysztof Kowalski.
Rose |
The difference between the pink of these two roses is evident, the one below is from Aquarelle, a french company.
This Rose is inspired from La Fe, a Thai artist who does only Roses.
Gossip in garden |
This is done using 3 photos, one of the kids, the pink plant the other of the garden and lot of imagination!
Champa |
These Champa (Frangipani) flowers are from our society garden, I thought they would be easy, but while painting almost got lost with all the buds.
Mumbai bagpackers |
White Roses |
The rose on the right is from a photo and the smaller one from imagination!
Kaas lake is the first painting I did on Arches paper and the effect is terrific. It was as if the painting just flowed out from my hands and the paintbox I have used pencil only for the poles. I gained lot of confidence and was relieved that the advise was very relevant.
I had been to Kaas long, long ago and still remember the virgin landscape and the beautiful flowers, wonder how it would be now....
With the new found paints and paper, I am falling short of high definition photographs to paint from. I keep clicking flowers and visiting them till My hands itches to bring them out of the paint box :)
